About this webinar

The legalization of marijuana in Minnesota has introduced new challenges and opportunities for employers. This 1-hour webinar will provide Minnesota workplace leaders, HR professionals and managers with a comprehensive understanding of how these changes impact workplace policies, employee conduct and employer responsibilities. Participants will also receive training on identifying and addressing reasonable suspicion of impairment in compliance with state regulations.

Key Learning Objectives:

  • Analyze Minnesota’s marijuana laws to determine their relevance to workplace practices and compliance requirements.
  • Apply state and federal regulatory knowledge to identify and address compliance gaps in workplace policies.
  • Summarize the essential components of reasonable suspicion as a testing method, including recognizing impairment indicators, documenting observations and applying workplace protocols to ensure compliance.

The Speakers

Connie Van Raalte
Human Resources/ Training Lead
Connie spent the last 15 years in onsite human resources and safety management, ensuring the safety and health of individuals in general industry throughout the Mankato, Minnesota, area. She is responsible for managing the OECS Specialized Training Center (STC), offering a variety of in-person and virtual safety classes. She is passionate about helping clients develop and sustain positive work cultures. Connie has her Bachelor of Science in Business Management and Human Resource Management from Minnesota State University and also has her Professional Human Resources (PHR) Accreditation.

DuWayne Schmitz
Field Safety Associate
DuWayne started with OECS in 2023 after serving active-duty military in the Minnesota Army National Guard for 34 years. He began his safety career as a Senior Fleet Supervisor for Anderson Trucking Service for 15 years, managing up to 72 over-the-road truckers with safety and DOT regulations. DuWayne then went on to full time active duty in the Minnesota Army National Guard. He served 6 months as an Assessment Specialist and then moved into Station Commander for the St. Cloud National Guard, where he trained and ensured the safety of recruits. After 9 years of service, DuWayne was promoted to First Sergeant and was a Regional Production Leader and Manager. DuWayne has a passion for safety and is excited to continue his service to help organizations build strong safety cultures.
